In this series of blog posts, we're excited to introduce you to the key members of our audit team at Poole Audit. Today, we have an interview with Jeremy Poole, who plays a pivotal role in ensuring our audit processes run smoothly and efficiently.
Work-Related Questions:
1. How many times a day or week do you communicate with clients? Operators?
Jeremy Poole: I engage with clients at the outset of the audit preparation phase, where my role is to simplify intricate data sets. This process ensures that clients grasp the full scope of the project effortlessly. When working with Operators, my involvement typically begins with the challenge of managing vast quantities of data, which often surpass the capabilities of standard software. For instance, certain accounting systems generate individual entries for each item on an invoice, distributed across multiple wells, potentially resulting in millions of data points for a single audit. I advise Operators that providing us with the raw data is most beneficial, as opposed to a tailored export which might not align with our specific requirements. This approach not only streamlines our process but also ensures that the data we receive is in its most useful form for our analysis.
2. Can you tell us about your background and journey that led you to your current position at Poole Audit?
Jeremy Poole: I hold a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. I started in the procurement sector within an oil and gas service company, where I honed my skills in logistics and supply chain management. Prior to joining Poole Audit, I was engaged with a firm specializing in wireless device management for large enterprises, further expanding my expertise in technology integration and system management. My career has been driven by an interest in process improvement and optimization. At Poole Audit, I've actively sought out and implemented enhancements in our operational workflows. My contributions have not only streamlined our processes but also significantly reduced the time required for various tasks, benefiting the entire team.
3. What is your current role and specific responsibilities as a part of the audit team?
Jeremy Poole: In addition to my regular audit responsibilities, I play a pivotal role in transforming operator-supplied data into a structured format within our workpapers. Given that operators deliver information in diverse formats, my task often involves cross-referencing multiple sources to trace data back to its original invoice. I ensure this linkage is seamlessly integrated into our workpaper template, providing auditors with a comprehensive view of each charge in a single, accessible location.
I've also spearheaded the refinement of our fieldwork completion processes for audits. With an increase in onshore audits, which might involve thousands of wells simultaneously, I recognized the need for a more collaborative approach. I introduced a system where auditors can collectively address common exceptions, enhancing efficiency and consistency across our audit teams.
Furthermore, I've automated several aspects of the exception documentation process, particularly for those involving numerous invoices, significantly reducing the time spent on these critical wrap-up stages.
My technical proficiency has also made me the go-to expert for special projects that benefit from software solutions or advanced Excel functionalities, allowing us to tackle complex data challenges with innovative approaches.
4. What do you believe sets Poole Audit apart from its competitors in the industry?
Jeremy Poole: Our distinguishing feature is our unparalleled adaptability. We excel at tailoring our processes to fit the unique needs of our clients, no matter how diverse their data sets might be. At Poole Audit, we take full ownership of our audits, treating each project as if it directly impacts our own finances, ensuring our clients are being paid and charged accurately.
Our commitment extends beyond just completing audits. We are driven by the desire to maximize the value our clients receive from our services.
5. How long have you been with Poole Audit?
Jeremy Poole: 9 years
Social Questions:
6. Outside of work, how do you like to spend your free time? Do you have any hobbies or passions that you pursue?
Jeremy Poole: My wife and I are blessed with three school-age children, and over the past eight years, I've had the joy of coaching approximately 30 Little League teams for my two boys. Our extended family lives nearby, which allows us to share a great deal of time together. Otherwise, I enjoy watching sports and playing video games, particularly factory automation and resource management games.
7. Are there any specific activities or sports that you enjoy participating in or watching during your leisure time?
Jeremy Poole: When it comes to sports, I enjoy watching baseball most. I have at times been very into sim-racing but that is hard to commit the necessary time with my other activities.
8. How do you find a balance between your professional responsibilities and personal interests?
Jeremy Poole: Efficiency is key for me. I'm constantly seeking new methods to perform my tasks effectively and swiftly. This mindset is ingrained in how I approach both my professional and personal life. At work, I strive to complete my responsibilities accurately and efficiently, allowing me to set aside work until the next day, ensuring I can fully engage with my family and hobbies when I'm off the clock.
